Source # 1- Drunk Driving: A
License To Kill
Summary-
This
article was a something I found on the Teen Ink online Magazine written by Marc
Acushnet. He gives his opinions on drunk driving, what it is, who does it, how
the law looks at it, and the serious life changing events that can be created
from it. He starts the article by saying “People say that drunk driving is a
mistake. It’s not a mistake. It’s a deliberate choice”(Acushnet 1). This helps
him to go on to say that its no wonder people do it all of the time,
considering that they can just write if off as a mistake and claim that it won’t
happen again. Furthermore the true dangers of drunk driving are discussed in a
rather condescending manner to really drive the point home that drinking and driving
is unacceptable, and a very foolish ‘decision’.
Evaluation-
This magazine article was clearly written with a
bias towards the opposing side of drinking and driving, for whatever reason
that may be, Acushnet did not make the article about himself. The writing
stayed on track in the fashion of defining the issue, giving examples of what
the issue is and appeared to have facts based off of prior research. I feel
that the audience was intended for the younger group of drivers because of the
website that the article was featured on, and with that being said it really
does preach to a much larger scale. Multiple points are addressed and discussed
to give the reader a better understanding of the problem at hand. Considering
the title of the article and the text that followed, Marc Acushnet left me with
no straying thoughts of what he feels, and what others should feel about teens
driving drunk.
