Source # 3- Drunk Driving
Crash Shattered Teen’s Life
Summary-
This
article was a news story from ABC’s online news database. It was the
heart-wrenching story of teenage best friends who made the decision to go out
to a club and get intoxicated then drive home. Jessica Randall was behind the
wheel of the car with her best friend Laura Gorman in the passenger seat as
they headed back to Laura’s dorm which was 40 minutes from the club, with a
mile left of the drive, “it happened, the car drove off Interstate 275 and down
a hill, crashing into a broad tree. Both were wearing seatbelts”(Goldberg 2).
This isn’t the quote I used but its an eerie one. Jessica was freed from the
car using the EMS’s jaws of life and rushed to the hospital, Laura was dead on
scene, Jessica now lives with the haunting pain of knowing she killed her best
friend. She now speaks publicly of this event to help young people understand
that its never a good idea to drink and drive, because she knows first hand.
Evaluation-
I really enjoyed this news article, as most from
ABC it was well written and conveyed nicely even through the internet and it
really puts things into perspective for those who don’t fully understand the
ramifications of drinking and driving. They are sure to mention and make very
good point of the fact that Jessica is now a spokesperson against this foolish
act. The story does a good job of following the events truly and providing
enough information for the reader to really piece the story together. It was a
little sad at points but it delivered a great story.
